BETHESDA, Md. - Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10th inning of the second game to help lead the Georgetown University baseball team to a split of a doubleheader with Xavier University on Friday at Shirley Povich Field. Xavier took the first game, 6-2, before GU bounced back for the 2-1 victory in game two.

It was the BIG EAST opener for both teams as the Hoyas moved to 8-20 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Musketeers are now 11-18 on the year and 1-1 in BIG EAST action.

Game Two: Georgetown 2, Xavier 1 (10 innings)
Brent Killam (Nokomis, Fla./Venice) and Jimmy Swad (Washington, D.C./St. Albans) combined to one-hit Xavier over 10 innings as the Hoyas won a tight pitching duel in game two.

Killam was dominant on the mound, setting career highs with 7.1 innings pitched and 12 strikeouts. He surpassed his previous career high of 11 strikeouts which he achieved on March 24 at Ohio State. Swad came in with one out in the eighth inning and picked up the win with 2.2 innings of hitless relief. He struck out three and walked one.

Davis had three hits to lead the offense, while Jake Bernstein (Frederick, Md./St. John's College HS) also had two base knocks and was on base four times with a pair of walks.

Georgetown jumped out to a quick lead as the Hoyas scored in the bottom of the first to grab a 1-0 lead. Austin Shirley (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga) reached on an error to lead off and went to second on an infield single by Bernstein. After a sacrifice bunt by Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley) put both runners in scoring position, Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) grounded an RBI single into left field to score Shirley.

Xavier tied the game, 1-1, in the third inning on a walk, two stolen bases and a run-scoring single.

It was a pitching duel throughout the game as Killam and Swad did not allow a hit after the third inning. On the other side, the Hoyas only had two hits in the fourth inning and one in the sixth until the 10th inning.

Ryan M. Davis led off the 10th with a walk and promptly stole second. He moved to third on a ground out and then Sammy Stevens (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) was intentionally walked. Ryan P. Davis stepped up and lined a 1-1 pitch, a 98-mph fastball, into right field for the game-winning single.

Game One: Xavier 6, Georgetown 2
The Hoyas brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth but could not complete the comeback, falling 6-2 in their BIG EAST opener.

Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas/Marcus) started on the mound and went 5.0 innings, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out two.

Alex Bernauer (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) and Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla./San Ramon Valley [Calif.]) each had two hits to lead the GU offense. Ryan M. Davis and Bernstein had Georgetown's other two hits.

Xavier opened the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. The Hoyas tied the game in the fourth as Davis led off with a walk, stole second, went to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-1.

Georgetown flashed some defense throughout the game. Richie O'Reilly (Hermosa Beach, Calif./Loyola HS) threw out a pair of base runners trying to advance on balls in the dirt. In the fifth inning, the Musketeers loaded the bases with one out on three singles. Weisenberg made a diving stop at third base on a hard ground ball, stepped on the base and threw to first for the inning-ending double play.

Xavier retook the lead with single runs in the sixth and seventh inning off of Nick Morreale (Lake Elmo, Minn./St. Thomas Academy/IMG Academy). The Musketeers added three more runs over the next two innings off of two different relievers to go up 6-1.

Bernauer launched his first career home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth, a shot that went well over the right field fence to make it 6-2. The Hoyas then loaded the bases with two outs, bringing the tying run to the plate, but a strikeout ended the game.

The series finale between the two teams will be played either Saturday or Sunday, weather pending. Stay tuned to Georgetown's twitter account - @gtownbaseball -- for updates regarding the day and time of the third game of the series. Live stats and a subscription-based video stream will be available at GUHoyas.com.

Notes - It was Georgetown's first walk-off victory since April 17, 2016, also against Xavier ... Weisenberg had the game-winning hit in that game ... The one-hit performance was GU's first since April 21, 2015 when four pitchers combined for a one-hit win over Coppin State.
