May 12, 2018

Box Score

WASHINGTON - Brent Killam (Nokomis, Fla./Venice) set the program's single-season strikeout record, but the Georgetown University baseball team only managed three hits in a 3-0 loss to Butler on Saturday afternoon in the BIG EAST Conference game at Bulldog Park in Indianapolis. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 23-26 on the year and 7-7 in conference play, while the Bulldogs move to 31-15 overall and 8-5 in BIG EAST action.

Killam pitched 6.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks, while striking out six. His fifth strikeout of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning was his 86th strikeout of the year to break Georgetown's single-season record, set by Simon Mathews (C'17) last season. Nick Morreale (Lake Elmo, Minn./St. Thomas Academy/IMG Academy) fired 1.2 innings of relief.

Alex Bernauer (Sunnyvale, Calif./Fremont) was on base twice with a single and a walk. Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va./Oakton) and Austin Shirley (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga) had GU's other two hits, both singles.

Butler took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a pair of singles, sandwiched around a hit-by-pitch and a walk. The Bulldogs added their only other run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

The Hoyas had their best scoring opportunity in the top of the fifth when Bernauer and Davis led off with Georgetown's first two hits of the game. A sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position, but consecutive strikeouts left them stranded. The Blue & Gray put runners on the corners in the eighth inning, but again could not score.

The series will conclude on Sunday with first pitch set for 11:30 a.m. The game will be aired live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) and a link to the broadcast and live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
