Georgetown Hosts Xavier in BIG EAST Opener on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's soccer squad (3-1-1) will host the Xavier University Musketeers (2-0-3) on Saturday afternoon at Shaw Field in both teams' BIG EAST Conference opener.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. and the contest will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) with alums Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action.
Senior forward Ethan Lochner (New York, N.Y. / Stuyvesant) was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Lochner helped lead the Hoyas to a 1-0-1 week as he tallied three points with a goal and an assist. Lochner scored the first goal of an eventual 1-1 double-overtime tie with then-No. 10 Stanford, the three-time defending national champions on Monday.  On Sunday, Lochner assisted the eventual game winner in a 3-1 win over Yale. Lochner assisted the second goal of the game, which came in the 52nd minute after the game had been tied since the fourth minute of play.
Sophomore forward Derek Dodson (Aurora, Ill. / Waubonsie Valley) is leading the team in scoring with eight points on four goals on the year.  He is followed by Achara (Enugu, Nigeria / Berkshire School [Mass.]) who has five points on two goals and one assist.  Senior midfielder Kyle Zajec (Westport, Conn. / Staples) has four points for the season with a goal and a squad-high two assists, while Lochner has three points on the year.  In goal, freshman Giannis Nikopolidis (Athens, Greece / Nea Genia Zirdi) has played in four games and tallied 15 saves with a 0.69 goals-against average.
The Musketeers extended their unbeaten streak to five straight to start the season, most recently battling to a scoreless draw against then-No. 3 Kentucky on Tuesday at XU Soccer Complex. Xavier's unbeaten streak has featured four shutouts in five matches.  The team already has seven different players with an assist this season as well as six different goal scorers.  Leading the way is Simen Hestens who has four goals and two assists for 10 points on the year.
The Hoyas are 4-4-0 all-time against the Musketeers with five of those meetings coming during the regular season.  Georgetown is 3-1 at Shaw Field against Xavier.  Last year, the squads split as the Blue & Gray fell in Cincinnati, 1-0, in overtime during the regular season.  Georgetown came back and defeated XU, 2-1, in double overtime as Declan McCabe hit a free kick in the 108th minute to give the Hoyas the league title. 
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.  Live stats and a link to BEDN will be available at  Saturday is Boy Scout Day, scouts dressed in their uniform will receive free admission and a Georgetown badge.
