Hoyas Volunteer at Dog Tag Bakery and Children's National Hospital

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team spent this past weekend giving back to the community as the Hoyas volunteered at Dog Tag Bakery and Children's National Hospital.

This was Georgetown's second-straight year volunteering at Dog Tag Bakery. The whole team spent Saturday and Sunday helping package and prepare baked goods that Dog Tag will distribute to military veterans.

Dog Tag Inc. seeks to build a bridge to business employment and a productive civilian life for the veterans and military families that have served our country. They provide a transformative opportunity for service-disabled veterans, military spouses and caregivers through a five-month fellowship, offering an education at Georgetown University and real life work experience at the bakery.

Every year Dog Tag hosts events and fundraisers for military veterans and their families. Throughout the year, Georgetown professors teach veterans courses on business, finance and other skills to assist their reintegration into society. Dog Tag empowers veterans through education and offers a helping hand to both the veterans and their families.

Additionally, each afternoon several Hoyas went over to the Children's National Hospital and spent time visiting and distributing hot chocolate, coffee and stickers to families and children. The student-athletes also made teddy bears and cards that will be distributed for the holidays at the hospital.

"Having the opportunity to volunteer at both Dog Tag Bakery and Children's National was a great experience for everyone on the team," senior outfielder AJ Lotsis said. "We volunteered at Dog Tag last year, and knew it was something that we wanted to do again to assist the veterans that serve our country. Additionally, it was awesome to volunteer at Children's National, and helping put a smile on the kids and families faces anyway we could. The team looks forward to continuing both relationships in the months and years to come."
