No. 20 Georgetown Hosts Drexel on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The No. 20 Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (2-0) will host the Drexel University Dragons on Saturday at Cooper Field. The opening draw is scheduled for 3 p.m. and it will be the second game in a doubleheader with the Hoya men. Live stats and a webcast ($) will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.

Goalkeeper Haelle Chomo (Naples, Fla. / Barron Collier) was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.  Additionally, senior midfielder Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park Country School) earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.

Chomo led the defensive effort for No. 20 Georgetown in Saturday's 10-7 upset win over then-No. 11 Towson. The senior goalkeeper surrendered just seven goals and made eight saves as the Hoyas knocked off the Tigers on the Hilltop. Whitehurst guided the Georgetown offense in its win on Saturday, totaling a game-high four points off a goal and three assists to go along with two ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover. Trailing 2-1 early, Whitehurst dished back-to-back assists to give the Hoyas their first lead of the game. GU never trailed again, with Whitehurst providing a late-game goal and assist to increase the Hoyas' one-goal lead to three.

Senior attacker Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) leads the team in scoring with six goals and four assists for 10 points on the season. She is followed by Whitehurst who has eight points on four goals and four assists. Senior Morgan Ryan (Maplewood, N.J. / Oak Knoll School) and junior Natalia Lynch (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West) are tied in third with four points apiece.

Lynch has seven draw controls on the year, and junior Noelle Peragine (Northport, N.Y. / Northport) leads the defense with eight caused turnovers to her credit. In goal, Chomo has played every minute in the cage with 16 saves for the season.

Drexel is 1-1 on the season falling to Johns Hopkins 17-9 in the season opener, but downing Iona 11-7 last weekend. Lucy Schneider led the team over Iona with five goals and one assist, while Courtney Dietzel added three goals. Zoe Bennett was in the cage for the Dragons with 13 saves on the afternoon. Colleen Grady leads the team in points with seven on three goals and four assists.

Georgetown is 5-6 all-time against the Dragons and 2-3 at home. Last year, the Hoyas won 16-8 in Philadelphia. Attacker Michaela Bruno (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) led the way with three goals and three assists for six points in the contest. She was followed by Ryan who posted three goals and an assist. Lynch also managed the hat trick as well as a squad best six draw controls on the afternoon. Eight different players scored a goal in the game for the Blue & Gray. The last meeting on the Hilltop was a 19-6 Hoya victory during the 1995 season.
