Baseball Closes Home Stretch with Wednesday Matchup Against Navy

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team (6-18) closes out a two-week stretch of nine home games on Wednesday afternoon when it hosts Navy at Shirley Povich Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. Live stats and a video stream will be available at GUHoyas.com.
 
The Hoyas are looking to snap a four-game losing streak coming into Wednesday's matchup. GU fell at George Mason 7-4 last week despite 6.0 strong innings with eight strikeouts from Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas / Marcus). Kai Nelson (New York, N.Y. / Fieldston) and Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va. / Oakton) hit back-to-back pinch-hit home runs in the loss. Over the weekend, the Hoyas dropped three games to Hartford. Brent Killam (Nokomis, Fla. / Venice) had seven strikeouts in 5.0 innings and Cushing had six more strikeouts in his second start of the week.
 
Both Cushing and Killam are currently among Georgetown's top 10 for career strikeouts. Cushing is sixth with 188 career strikeouts. He is 12 away from becoming just the sixth Hoya to ever reach 200 strikeouts in a career and 13 behind Brian O'Hare (1993-96). Killam is ninth with 169 strikeouts and is just 11 behind Randy Erwin (1998-01) for eighth.
 
For the season, Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Conn.) leads the Hoyas with a .337 (30 for 89) batting average and 16 RBIs. Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif. / San Ramon Valley) is hitting .309 (30 for 97) with two home runs, three triples and a team-high nine doubles. Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington and Lee University) leads GU in several categories including home runs (4), runs scored (22) and stolen bases (6) while ranking second in doubles (7) and RBIs (15). As a team, the Hoyas are batting .274 while the pitching staff owns a 5.75 ERA.
 
Navy enters Wednesday's contest with a 17-9 overall record and a 6-2 mark in Patriot League play. The Midshipmen split road doubleheaders with Army and Holy Cross over the weekend. Zach Stevens leads Navy with a .373 (19 for 51) batting average while Liam Lowery is hitting .322 (29 for 90) with a team-high 20 RBIs. Jacob Williamson has hit four home runs to lead the way while Christian Hodge has three. Navy is batting .270 as a team, while the pitching staff has a 3.37 ERA.

The Hoyas will hit the road for this weekend for a three-game series at East Tennessee State University. Friday's series opener is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch, while Saturday's contest will begin at 2 p.m. and Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
