WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team hits the road this weekend for a three-game series at East Tennessee State University. Friday's series opener is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch, while Saturday's contest will begin at 2 p.m. and Sunday is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats for all three games will be available at GUHoyas.com.
The Hoyas (6-19) are coming off a 12-3 loss to Navy on Wednesday afternoon at Shirley Povich Field.
Alex Gamache (Lake Forest, Ill. / Lake Forest Academy) hit his first career home run to lead the offense.
Anthony Redfern (Andover, Mass. / Phillips Andover) fired a scoreless inning with a strikeout in his collegiate debut.
Chase Walter (Winston-Salem, N.C. / Forsyth Country Day School) picked up his first career strikeout in a scoreless inning of work while
Nick Morreale (Lake Elmo, Minn. / St. Thomas Academy / IMG Academy) had two strikeouts in his first relief appearance of the season.
Both
Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas / Marcus) and
Brent Killam (Nokomis, Fla. / Venice) are currently among Georgetown's top 10 for career strikeouts. Cushing is sixth with 188 career strikeouts. He is 12 away from becoming just the sixth Hoya to ever reach 200 strikeouts in a career and 13 behind Brian O'Hare (1993-96). Killam is ninth with 169 strikeouts and is just 11 behind Randy Erwin (1998-01) for eighth.
For the season,
Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Conn.) leads the Hoyas with a .330 (30 for 91) batting average and 16 RBIs.
Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif. / San Ramon Valley) is hitting .310 (31 for 100) with two home runs, three triples and a team-high nine doubles.
Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington and Lee University) leads GU in several categories including home runs (4), runs scored (22) and stolen bases (6) while ranking second in doubles (7) and RBIs (15). As a team, the Hoyas are batting .272 while the pitching staff owns a 6.01 ERA.
ETSU enters the weekend with a 19-5 overall record after winning a pair of midweek games against No. 23 Tennessee and UNC Asheville. Cullen Smith leads the Buccaneers with a .352 (32 for 91) batting average and nine doubles. Jackson Greer is hitting .333 (28 for 84) and is tied with Ethan Cady for the team lead with five home runs. As a squad, ETSU is hitting .284 while the pitching staff has a 3.59 ERA.
