On Tuesday, senior midfielder
Francesca Whitehurst (Baltimore, Md. / Roland Park Country School) was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week and classmate
Taylor Gebhardt (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker) earned a nod to the weekly honor roll.
Whitehurst picked up her fourth certificate of the season after leading GU to an 18-4 win over Old Dominion on Saturday. The senior led all BIG EAST players with seven points in league action last week, going for four goals and three assists while racking up three draw controls and a ground ball. The senior added two points (1G, 1A) and two draw controls in Wednesday's setback to No. 2 Maryland to finish the week with nine points, five goals, four assists, five draws and one ground ball.
Gebhardt totaled eight points off five goals and three assists for the week. Against the Terps, the senior tallied a team-high three points (1G, 2A) before going for five points (4G, 1A) in Saturday's home win over Old Dominion. Gebhardt is second on the team in scoring with 34 goals and 16 assists for 50 points. It is her first Attacker of the Week honor this season and the second overall weekly award for the year.
Whitehurst and Gebhardt lead the team in scoring with 55 and 50 points, respectively. Whitehurst has 30 goals and a squad-best 25 assists, while Gebhardt has managed 34 goals with 16 assists on the season. They are followed by senior attacker
Morgan Ryan (Maplewood, N.J. / Oak Knoll School) in third with a team-high 38 goals, while junior attacker
Michaela Bruno (Garden City, N.Y. / Garden City) is fourth with 22 goals to go along with 13 assists on the year.
Whitehurst has 53 draw controls and freshman midfielder
Jordyn Sabourin (Catonsville, Md. / Notre Dame Prep) is second with 38. Junior
Noelle Peragine (Northport, N.Y. / Northport) has 20 caused turnovers and junior
Katie Hudson (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y. / Cold Spring Harbor) has managed 18 for the year. In goal, senior
Haelle Chomo (Naples, Fla. / Barron Collier) has played a majority of the minutes in the cage with 95 saves and a 10.33 goals-against average for the season.
Despite a setback at No. 14 Denver last Friday, the Golden Eagles (8-8, 2-2 BIG EAST) were able to clinch a BIG EAST Tournament berth for the second consecutive season. Grace Gabriel led Marquette with four goals and the senior earned mention on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts, which also included seven draw controls, two ground balls and two caused turnovers. She is leading the team in scoring with 51 goals and six assists for 57 points on the year.
The Hoyas are 6-0 all-time against the Golden Eagles and 3-0 on the road. Last year, Georgetown pulled out a 9-8 overtime victory at Cooper Field as Gebhardt scored the game winner. Gebhardt led the Hoyas with three goals, while
Natalia Lynch (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown West) managed two goals and an assist.
Caroline Frock (Westminster, Md./Westminster) was the other Hoya with multiple points tallying a pair of goals. In the last meeting in the Midwest, the Blue & Gray won by a score of 19-11.
The action will stay in Milwaukee as the Hoyas look ahead to the BIG EAST Championship hosted by the Golden Eagles May 2 and 4.
