Farrell and Carusa Sign with Professional Leagues

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University women's soccer standouts Caitlin Farrell (Wallingford, Conn. / Choate Rosemary Hall) and Kyra Carusa (San Diego, Calif. / Del Norte / Stanford) recently signed contracts to continue their soccer careers at the professional level. Farrell joined Orlando Pride's roster in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and Carusa signed with Le Havre AC, a Ligue 2 team in France.

"We are all very excited for Caitlin and Kyra as they look to continue their playing careers after college," said Head Coach Dave Nolan. "I really believe that for both girls, their best soccer is ahead of them and both situations provide the specific challenges that each one was looking for at the next level."

Farrell led the Hoyas in her last season on the Hilltop with 39 points from 18 goals and three assists. She is tied for first at Georgetown with most goals in a single season (18) and finished second in the country in game-winning goals (8), third in total goals (18) and fourth in total points (39).

Farrell was unanimously selected as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and received the only unanimous vote to be on the All-BIG EAST First Team. The senior forward was named to the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team and earned the Most Outstanding Offensive Player of the tournament. She was named to the United Soccer Coaches Division I All-East Regional First Team and a First Team Academic All-American. The senior was also named a Class of 2019 Honda Sport Award for Soccer finalist last month. Farrell is the first player on the GU women's soccer team, and only the second player in school history, to be named a MAC Hermann Trophy Finalist.

Carusa, who was originally selected as the first pick in the third round, 19th overall, by Sky Blue FC in the 2019 NWSL Draft, made an impact at Georgetown in just one year of playing on the Hilltop. She finished the season with 32 points, the team's second best. The graduate student recorded 10 goals and 12 assists, including 10 points from three goals and four helpers during the NCAA Tournament. In her single year playing for the Blue & Gray, Carusa sits eighth in all-time single-season records at Georgetown in goals, third in assists and fifth in points.

The forward earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST Second Team and the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team. Earlier this season, Carusa was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-East Regional First Team and was the only Hoya to be named to the College Cup All-Tournament Team.

"It is great to see that young female athletes can make a career playing the sport they love. Hopefully this will also provide inspiration to younger girls at Georgetown and beyond that, the other opportunities out there after college," continued Nolan. "In addition, I think it speaks volumes that it's possible to earn a top education and develop your game to the highest level here on the Hilltop."

Farrell and Carusa join a handful of former Hoyas currently playing in the pros. Emily Menges (C'14) plays for the Portland Thorns, Rachel Corboz (C'18) and Daphne Corboz (C'15) are on FC Fleury 91 in France, Chloe Knott (C'18) is playing for Durham Ladies in the UK, Elizabeth Wenger (C'18) is on FF Lugano in Switzerland and Crystal Thomas (C'16) is on Valur SC in Iceland.
