WASHINGTON – Georgetown University senior
Lucas Wittenberg (Kennesaw, Ga. / Harrison / Mercer) was named to the USILA Division I Team of the Week, as announced on Tuesday.
Wittenberg was named the BIG EAST Championship Most Outstanding Player over the weekend after leading the No. 13/13 Hoyas to their second-straight league title and a berth to the NCAA Tournament. He opened the week with a GU, and BIG EAST, record eight assists along with a goal in a 13-12 come-from-behind victory over Providence in the semifinals. He followed that up with two goals and two assists in a 12-9 win over then-No. 11/14 Denver in the title game.
Other honorees joining Wittenberg include Ryan Conrad from Virginia, Joey Epstein from Johns Hopkins, Kyle Gallagher from Penn, Alex Heger from Robert Morris, Sean Menges from Richmond, Mac O'Keefe from Penn State, Trevor Patschorke from UMBC, Johnny Surdick from Army and Joe Tierney from Marist.
Georgetown travels to face defending national champion No. 3/4 Yale on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in New Haven, Connecticut. Saturday's game is set for a 2:30 p.m. opening faceoff and will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
