Sabourin Named to U19 Canadian National Team

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University women's lacrosse sophomore midfielder Jordyn Sabourin (Catonsville, Md. / Notre Dame Prep) was named to the Canadian Women's U19 Field Lacrosse Team earlier this month following the final of three tryout camps since November.

The 20 players selected will train in the lead up to the 2019 Women's Lacrosse U19 World Championship in Peterborough, Ontario from Aug. 1-10. Ultimately, 18 players and a pair of alternates will represent Canada as the team looks to defend its gold medal from 2015.  Sabourin is one of 15 players on the squad that currently plays intercollegiate lacrosse in the United States.

"We are excited for Jordyn to have this opportunity to compete at the international level playing against some of the best players in the world," said Georgetown Head Coach Ricky Fried.  "She has worked hard to achieve this goal and we look forward to supporting her in August."

The midfielder appeared in 19 games as a freshman playing primarily on the opening draw.  She tallied 48 draw controls to rank second on the squad alongside two caused turnovers and as many ground balls.  While Sabourin hails from Maryland, her father, Ken, a former professional hockey player, is Canadian giving her dual citizenship.

"Playing for Team Canada in the World Cup, especially on my home turf in front of friends and family, is something I have always strived for," said Sabourin.  "I am very excited to be a part of this journey in defending the gold medal."
