WASHINGTON – Things may look a bit different on the Hilltop this fall due to the cancellation of fall sports because of COVID-19, but the Georgetown University women's soccer squad finds ways to continue its close-knit team culture virtually. The Hoyas welcomed six freshmen and two transfers to the team this season, and even though fans won't get a chance this fall to see them in action on Shaw Field, GUHoyas found a way to introduce them to the fans, brought to you by PNC Bank.
Today, we introduce to you
Erin Martin, a freshman out of Clinton, Connecticut. You can catch Martin at midfield on the pitch when the Hoyas return to action.
At what point did you realize you wanted to play college soccer?
Martin: In elementary school, my coaches sat me down and told me I had the potential to go as far as I wanted to with soccer. They believed in me far before I believed in myself.
What brought you to the Hilltop/why did you choose Georgetown?
Martin: When I first visited Georgetown after my freshman year in high school, I knew it was my dream school. Besides the rigorous academics and exceptional soccer program, the staff and team members are so welcoming. I especially love how there's a campus environment while simultaneously being in the heart of D.C.
Favorite athlete and why?
Martin: Cristiano Ronaldo because I always looked up to him as a child and dreamed of being as fast and as technical as he is.
If I didn't play soccer, I would …
Martin: be a chef.
When you're not on the soccer field, where can one find you?
Martin: Shopping at the mall.
What's one fact about you that would surprise other people?
Martin: Although I come off as loud and outgoing, I am more of an introvert.
What are you majoring in in college? What do you hope to be?
Martin: I am not sure yet.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things couldn't you live without?
Martin: Sweatpants, my dog and my water bottle
I know it's only been a few weeks since you've started, but what has been the hardest part so far for you as a freshman in college?
Martin: Trying to meet people and make friends virtually.
