No. 2/2 Hoyas Travel to Xavier on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The No. 2/2 Georgetown University men's soccer team (12-1, 6-1 BIG EAST) will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio this weekend for a Saturday evening matchup against the Xavier University Musketeers. The BIG EAST Conference matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Corcoran Field. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) presented by SoFi on FloSports.

  • The BIG EAST Conference has announced an agreement with leading sports streaming service FloSports to become the home of the BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi for the 2021-22 academic year. About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is 12-1 overall and 6-1 in BIG EAST Conference play to sit atop the league standings after a 2-1 double overtime victory over St. John's on Wednesday afternoon.
  • The Hoyas opened the scoring in the second minute when senior captain Sean Zawadzki sent it to sophomore Kyle Linhares on the right side. He took a touch and centered it to junior Stefan Stojanovic who buried it in the second minute to make it 1-0.
  • St. John's tied it up in the 49th minute and the game eventually went into overtime.
  • In the final minute, St. John's had a shot that was saved by GU keeper Ethan Koehler. The Hoyas came down with one more opportunity. Sophomore Marlon Tabora passed it to freshman Kieran Sargeant. He found junior Aidan Rocha in the middle of the box. The shot was on target, but deflected off of a Red Storm defender and into the net to give GU the victory with just 38 seconds left in overtime.
  • On Monday, Stojanovic was named the BIG EAST Honor Roll for his efforts in a 3-1 win over Villanova over the weekend as he posted a goal and an assist in the contest.  
  • Stojanovic leads the Hoyas with 15 points on seven goals and one assist. Dante Polvara is second with 12 points off of four goals and as many assists.
About the Musketeers
  • Xavier is 8-6 overall and 2-5 in BIG EAST play with six points to sit in ninth place in the league.
  • XU is coming off of a 2-0 loss to Creighton on Wednesday evening.
  • The Musketeers have lost their last two falling to Creighton and Butler (2-1).
  • Their last victory was a 1-0 win over Seton Hall on October 9.
  • Karsen Henderlong leads the team with 15 points on six goals and three assists, while Justus Kauppinen is second tallying three goals and four assists for 10 points on the year.
