HOYAS WIN! Women’s Cross Country Wins Mid-Atlantic Region Title; Parker Stokes Takes Men’s Individual Crown

WASHINGTON – For the first time since 2014, the Georgetown University women's cross country team won the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Championship. It marks the ninth Mid-Atlantic region title in program history for the women's program. Parker Stokes won the Mid-Atlantic Region title on the men's side, becoming the eighth Hoya to ever win the race and the first since Jonathan Green in 2017. With both teams finishing among the top two teams, the squads will head to Tallahassee, Florida on Saturday, Nov. 20 to compete in the NCAA Championships.

ON THE RECORD  WITH DIRECTOR OF TRACK & FIELD / CROSS COUNTRY ALTON McKENZIE
"Another great day for our Hoya men and women securing their selections to the NCAA Championships. We're beyond pleased with the effort displayed today from both teams. Our women had a convincing win as a team and head into the NCAA Championships poised to continue their exceptional season. Our men's team finishing second also shows they are peaking at the right time. Great day to be a Hoya and we're looking forward to competing in Tallahassee at the NCAA Cross Country Championships."

ON THE RECORD WITH WOMEN'S DISTANCE COACH MITCHELL BAKER
"I'm very proud of the team. They put themselves in great spots early, climbed a bit in the middle but stayed patient, and then really showed their maturity and grit with a strong final third to open up a gap. Qualifying races are their own animal; the team understood that and embraced the task of focusing on themselves and taking a step forward from the conference winning effort. They applied a lot of what they learned, and I'm excited to see what we can take from today in the NCAA Championship next week."

MID-ATLANTIC REGION CHAMPIONS - No. 23 WOMEN (1st of 27, 43 points) - 6,000 METERS
  • All season, the Hoyas have looked to Maggie Donahue to provide the low stick, but today it was her teammate Sami Corman who was the top finisher for the Blue & Gray, clocking 20:16.6 over the 6,000-meter race and holding off another big Donahue surge over the final 2,000 meters. Donahue came through the finish on Corman's shoulder, crossing the finish line at 20:16.7.

  • Georgetown's five point scorers all turned in All-Region performances (1-25) with West Virginia the only other squad to accomplish that feat.

"The goal of the Regional is to book your ticket to the NCAA meet and we did just that today. The team is coming around really well and I think the NCAA meet will be our best meet of the year. Parker Stokes ran an incredible race to get the individual win. Parker is developing into the front runner that I always knew he could be. We are very excited for the NCAA meet in eight days in Tallahassee."
