WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad released its 2021 schedule presented by MedStar Health on Friday. The squad will play six nonconference games before a two-game series with each of the five BIG EAST Conference opponents. The team will face three squads ranked in the IWLCA Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll.
All Georgetown women's lacrosse home games are currently scheduled to be played at newly-opened Cooper Field. In accordance with Washington, D.C. regulations which limit the size of in-person gatherings, fans are regrettably not permitted to attend home games at this time.
Following an early postponement, the Hoyas will open the year against No. 3 Syracuse at Cooper Field on Feb. 23. The squad will follow that up at home against Drexel on Feb. 27. Georgetown will head out on the road for a pair of matchups against Delaware (March 3) and No. 4 Loyola (March 10) before closing out the nonconference schedule on March 13 against Towson at Cooper Field.
Each BIG EAST series will be Friday/Sunday matchups at one location. Conference play spans seven weeks with two makeup weekends built in. Georgetown will open with Villanova at home (March 19 & 21) and then travel to No. 11 Denver on March 26 and 28. The Blue & Gray will host a pair of home opponents in Marquette (April 9 & 11) and Butler (April 16 & 18). The season will conclude at UConn on April 23 and 25.
The Hoyas will host the BIG EAST Championship on May 6 and 8 at Cooper Field. The top four teams will earn a trip to the tournament.
Last season, Georgetown was 4-3 before the season was cut short due to COVID-19. The Hoyas return a number of seniors from last year's roster as well as a solid base heading into 2020. GU was selected to finish second in the BIG EAST earlier this week in the league's 2021 Preseason Coaches Poll.
