Georgetown to Face No. 14/18 Loyola on Wednesday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team will travel to Loyola University Maryland for a nonconference matchup against the No. 14/18 Greyhounds on Wednesday evening at the Ridley Athletic Complex. The opening draw is scheduled for 7 p.m. The Hoyas are currently 1-1 on the young season.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown coming off of a 14-8 victory at the University of Delaware on Saturday.
  • Four Hoyas managed a hat trick as Michaela Bruno, Jordyn Sabourin, Annabelle Albert and Kylie Hazen all had three goals apiece.
  • Hazen also had a trio of assists for six points in the game, while Albert added one for four points on the afternoon.
  • GU outshot Delaware 35-19 and forced 21 turnovers while committing 19. Georgetown held the 14-10 advantage in draw controls, as freshman Emma Driggs pulled in five and Sabourin tallied four.
  • In the cage, sophomore Emily Gaven tallied four saves in the win, while Kate Brewster had seven saves to her credit.
  • For their efforts, Hazen was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday and Albert earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.
About the Greyhounds
  • Loyola is 2-2 overall, but coming off of a pair of victories.
  • The squad is currently ranked No. 14 by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and No. 18 in the Inside Lacrosse Maverick Media Poll.
  • Attacker Livy Rosenzweig, defender Katie Detwiler, goalkeeper Kaitlyn Larsson and midfielder Sam Fiedler were all recognized after helping the Greyhounds defeat Villanova and American by a combined margin of 39-10 this past week.
  • Loyola topped the Wildcats by an 18-6 margin on Wednesday, and defeated the Eagles 21-4 in the Patriot League opener for both teams over the weekend.
  • The Greyhounds' pair of losses came in February to No. 3 Syracuse (18-6) and at Towson (13-7).

  • Georgetown is 9-12 all-time against the Greyhounds and 2-6 on the road. 
  • The last meeting was a 13-10 loss at the Ridley Athletic Complex in 2019.
  • Loyola has won the last six matchups as the squads have met every season for the last 14 years except 2020 due to the shortened year.
  • This will be Georgetown's first ranked opponent of the 2021 campaign.
  • Assistant Coach Katrina Geiger is no stranger to the Greyhound program, she was an All-Patriot League performer at Loyola from 2012-18.
