Eight Hoyas Named USILA All-Americans; McElroy Tabbed National Goalie of the Year

WASHINGTON – A program-record eight Georgetown University men's lacrosse standouts were named 2021 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association All-Americans, as announced by the organization on Tuesday. Owen McElroy was also named the Ensign C. Markland Kelly Jr. Outstanding Goalie as the top netminder in the nation, the first Hoya to ever receive the award.
 
Three Hoyas garnered second team honors including Graham Bundy Jr., Jake Carraway and Gibson Smith. James Donaldson, Zachary Geddes, Dylan Hess and Alex Mazzone all earned honorable mention accolades as well.

  • Collected double digit saves in 10 games during the season, including 24 against Providence – the second most in a game in Georgetown history.
  • Georgetown leads the nation in scoring defense (8.31) and man-down defense (.829).

  • Selected 10th overall in the Premier Lacrosse League Collegiate Draft.
  • Played in and started 15 games for the Hoyas.
  • Scored 51 goals and added 17 assists for 68 points.
  • Broke Georgetown's program records for career points (282) and goals (195).
  • Named the US Lacrosse National Player of the Week once this season and was selected to the USILA National Team of the Week twice.
 
Gibson Smith, Sr., D, Pelham, N.Y.

  • Often charged to cover opponent's top offensive threat.
  • Collected 15 ground balls and credited with nine caused turnovers on the season.

Zachary Geddes, Jr., SSDM, Winchester, Mass.

  • Played in 15 games for the Hoyas on the top defensive midfield unit.
  • Collected 20 ground balls and was credited with nine caused turnovers.
  • Added four goals and three assists for seven points.
  • Georgetown leads the nation in scoring defense (8.31)
 
Dylan Hess, Fr., M, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

  • Played in 16 games, starting nine, and transitioned to a true two-way midfielder midseason.

Alex Mazzone, Jr., LSM, Stony Brook, N.Y.

  • Played in all 16 games on Georgetown's top defensive midfield unit.
  • Collected 32 ground balls and was credited with 16 caused turnovers.
  • Added a pair of goals on the year.
  • Georgetown leads the nation in scoring defense (8.31)
 
Georgetown went 13-3 overall in 2021 and made its 10th NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals appearance. The Hoyas were Co-BIG EAST Regular Season Champions and won the BIG EAST Tournament for an unprecedented third-consecutive time.
