WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Field Hockey Head Coach
Christy Longacre announced the 2021 schedule presented by MedStar Health on Wednesday. The slate consists of one exhibition and 19 regular season contests including eight games on the Hilltop which will begin in early September.
Georgetown will face two teams that appeared in the most recent NCAA Tournament including four that finished the season ranked among the top 25.
The Hoyas will travel the short distance to American for an exhibition match on August 21 before opening the regular season with seven-consecutive contests on the road.
GU's first regular season game will be a two-game series at Towson. The Hoyas will face the Tigers on August 27 and follow that up with a match against Appalachian State on Saturday. The next two road swings are Friday/Sunday matchups as the Blue & Gray will play at Sacred Heart (Sept. 3), Long Island-Brooklyn (Sept. 5), Rider (Sept. 10) and Lehigh (Sept. 12).
The first home game is scheduled for September 17 as GU faces Liberty on Friday in the initial BIG EAST Conference match of the season, and then battles Lock Haven on Sunday in nonconference action. Friday's contest will also be a celebration of the Classes of 2020 and 2021.
GU will head back out on the road to face Providence in BIG EAST action on September 24, and then Brown on September 26.
Cooper Field will play host to Temple (October 1) and La Salle (Oct. 3), before another two-game road swing at Old Dominion (Oct. 8) and Virginia Commonwealth (Oct. 10).
Four of GU's final five regular season games will be at Cooper Field as the Hoyas will host Quinnipiac (Oct. 15), Saint Francis (Oct. 17), Villanova (Oct. 29) and Richmond (Oct. 31). A BIG EAST game against UConn is sandwiched in the homestand as GU will travel to Storrs, Connecticut on October 22. The game against the Spiders will serve as Senior Day for the Class of 2022.
The BIG EAST Championship is scheduled for Thursday, November 4 and Sunday, November 7 in Storrs, Connecticut.
