Hoyas Ready for Long-Awaited Season Opener at Delaware State

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team will travel to Delaware State on Saturday for the much-anticipated 2021 season opener. The Hoyas will take on the Hornets in a matchup that is set to kickoff at 2 p.m. from Alumni Stadium in Dover, Delaware.

  • Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Gary Laing calling the play-by-play.

ABOUT THE HOYAS  
SCOUTING DELAWARE STATE
  • The Hornets enter Saturday with a 1-0 record following a 34-24 victory over Division II Bowie State last weekend.
  • Sy'veon Wilkerson led the rushing attack with 101 yards on the ground and three touchdowns.
  • Tylik Bethea threw for 76 yards on nine completions.
  • The DSU defense had four interceptions on the day, returning one for a touchdown.
 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • This is the first ever matchup between the Hoyas and Hornets.
  • Saturday will be Georgetown's first contest against an opponent from the MEAC since 2011 when the Hoyas defeated Howard University 21-3. The Blue & Gray will also play Morgan State in this year's season finale.
  • Georgetown is 8-12 in season openers since 2001, and 3-3 under Head Coach Rob Sgarlata.
