WASHINGTON – The Georgetown men's and women's track & field teams competed in Virginia Tech's Hokie Invitational on Friday and Saturday, January 21-22, in Blacksburg, Virginia. Six Hoyas placed in the top three with two taking first in their respective events and a trio of men's runners sweeping first, second, and third in the 800 meter run.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Freshman Melissa Riggins made her debut for the Hoyas as she placed third in the 1,000 meter run at 2:43.85. She is now the third fastest runner in this event in Georgetown history.
  • Maggie Donahue competed in her first event of the new year running a time of 4:45.59 in the mile for the Hoyas.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • Matthew Payamps, Ethan Delgado, and Parker Stokes swept first, second, and third place in the 800 meter run, respectively. Payamps had a time of 1:49.90, Delgado with 1:50.21, and Stokes at 1:50.34.
  • Joshua Paige ran in the 300 meter dash with a time of 33.46 which earned him first place in the event.
  • Camden Gilmore built on his performance from last week running in the 3,000 meter run earning himself second place (8:00.75).

Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Atlon McKenzie on the Hokie Invitational:
"We had another weekend centered around continuing to build for what's to come later this season. There were some indications of our depth in the mid/distance area on the men's side with Matt Payamps leading the way and chalking up another win, this time at 800 meter, as we went 1-2-3. I was also extremely impressed with Freshman Melissa Riggins opening up her Hoya career with a third place finish in the 1,000 meter running 2:43.85 seconds; third fastest time at the distance in Hoyas history. Also saw an impressive win by Joshua Paige in the 300 meter running a new school record of 33.46. He's had an impressive start to his indoor season and is looking forward to more to come. We're now focused on getting in a few weeks of training and preparing for big things to come in February."
