WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's cross country team came in 10th place on Saturday at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Georgetown was led by
Maggie Donahue who finished 21st overall.
ON THE RECORD
"Exceptional performance by our women to be a top 10 team at the National XC Championships. Huge congrats to
Maggie Donahue &
Grace Jensen garnering All-American status finishing 21st and 39th respectively; caps off what has been an amazing season for both and the entire team. As a staff we were very proud to see our Women back in the top 10 at a National Championship.
Our men didn't perform how we would've liked but being at the National Championships takes a lot of effort and we are still very proud of the team for getting to Stillwater. We'll be better having gained that experience." – Director of Cross Country/Track & Field
Alton McKenzie
"Placing in the top-10 at the NCAA meet is so, so difficult, especially as the front-end firepower and depth has skyrocketed across the NCAA since the return to competition in spring '21. In many ways today was similar to the last two years when we climbed back into the national picture with back-to-back 18th place finishes, but we absolutely leveraged that experience and our development in the past couple of years to come in with a very different mindset. Before we had the ability and hoped we'd compete well; this group knew they would toe the line and deliver for each other.
Maggie breaking through to another level within the All-American cohort, and Grace earning All-America in her first NCAA meet are both just fantastic displays of focus and grit today as well as the weeks leading in. The rest of the team ran really, really competitive races. Few had perfect days but today they were as close as you typically come to being a perfect team. They believed, executed, and fought for every spot. We're very proud of them and for how they represented Georgetown and the history of the program." – Cross Country/Track & Field Assistant Coach
