Owen McElroy Repeats as BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

WASHINGTON – For the second-straight week and the third time in four weeks, Georgetown University's Owen McElroy was named the BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. McElroy anchored the Hoyas between the pipes to a 1-1 record on the week.

  • Manning the cage for 90 minutes on the week, he posted a 7.33 goals-against average and a .633 save percentage with 19 total saves and four ground balls.
  • Allowed just one goal, coming off an unsettled turnover in front of the crease, against Mount St. Mary's in midweek action.
  • Played only the first half against the Mountaineers in the 21-4 win and collected three saves.
  • Added another 16 saves in a 10-8 setback to visiting No. 18 Princeton in Georgetown's first loss of the season.
  • Had two ground balls in each game.
  • This is McElroy's ninth career BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week Award.
