Women’s Lacrosse Opens BIG EAST Play at Villanova

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team will open the BIG EAST Conference season at Villanova this Saturday. The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Hoyas are coming off a home defeat to the No. 8 Maryland Terrapins.

About the Hoyas

  • The Hoyas currently hold a 3-2 away record and are 5-6 on the season. 

  • In the most recent contest, Georgetown was defeated 15-3 by Maryland on Wednesday night. 

  • The Blue & Gray trailed 7-1 at halftime against the Terrapins and then were ultimately defeated by a score of 15-3 after two fourth quarter goals. 

  • GU was outshot 25-16 by Maryland but led 8-7 in total draw controls.

  • Ali Diamond leads the squad with 27 points on 18 goals and nine assists. 

  • Freshman Emma Gebhardt has tallied 22 points this season on 16 goals and six assists while Kylie Hazen has 20 points on 15 goals and five assists. 

  • LizaBanks Campagna paces the Georgetown defensive effort as she has 77 draw controls with five caused turnovers. Emma Driggs has 36 draw controls and Jordyn Sabourin has 17.

  • Melissa Massimino adds 11 draw controls to go along with 22 caused turnovers and Olivia Buckman has 12 caused turnovers to go with three draw controls. 

About the Wildcats

  • Villanova is 4-7 on the season with a 2-3 record in home contests. 

  • The Wildcats are coming off a close 8-7 double overtime home defeat to No. 10 Michigan and a 12-10 home victory over the UC Davis Aggies in their last contest on Saturday. 

  • Villanova trails opponents 129-113 in total goals scored vs. goals allowed in addition to trailing 42-59 in assists and 68-84 in caused turnovers. 

  • Caroline Curnal paces the offensive attack with 27 goals and five assists for a team high 32 points. She has also been able to tally 78 draw controls in addition to causing two turnovers.

  • Cara Moreau is a key facilitator in the Villanova offense as she leads the team with 12 assists to go along with seven goals.

  • Sydney Frank is a major factor in the defensive effort as she has nine caused turnovers to go along with 25 draw controls.

 

Series Info

  • This is the 27th ever meeting between the two sides. Georgetown holds a 21-5 advantage as they defeated the Wildcats twice at home last season. The Hoyas have been victorious in the last 18 contests against the Wildcats. The last victory for Villanova came in March of 1994.
