WASHINGTON – Georgetown will travel to Lubbock, Texas to face the Texas Tech University Red Raiders as part of the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle as released by both conferences on Thursday. The matchup will be held in Lubbock on Wednesday, November 30. Tip time and broadcast information will be released at a later date.
HOYAS IN THE BIG 12-BIG EAST BATTLE
- Texas Tech went 27-10 last season, including a 12-6 mark in Big 12 play. The Red Raiders advanced to the 2022 NCAA Sweet Sixteen before falling 78-73 to Duke in the West Region semifinals.
- This will be the third meeting between the Hoyas and Red Raiders and the first since the 1995-96 season.
- Georgetown is 2-0 against Texas Tech, only facing the Red Raiders previously during NCAA Tournament action.
- The Blue & Gray took a 98-90 win in the Sweet Sixteen on March 21, 1996 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta. Naismith Hall of Famer Allen Iverson led all scorers with 32 points, five assists, five steals and four rebounds. Othella Harrington added 23 points and six rebounds.
- In its first ever meeting, Georgetown took the 70-64 win in the NCAA First Round on March 12, 1986 in Dayton, Ohio. Reggie Williams led the Hoyas with 22 points and seven rebounds while Jaren Jackson added 12 points and four assists.
- In the first three years of the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle, Georgetown owns a 1-2 record. The Hoyas defeated Oklahoma State in Stillwater during the 2019-20 season, fell to West Virginia during the 2020-21 campaign at McDonough Arena and had an 80-73 setback against TCU at Capital One Arena last season.
- Against the Horned Frogs last season, Aminu Mohammed scored 21 points to lead a trio of Hoyas in double figures and added 11 rebounds for a double-double. During his freshman campaign, Mohammed tallied 11 double-doubles, which ranked first in the BIG EAST.
