WASHINGTON- The Georgetown men's and women's cross country teams are ranked among the top 25 nationally in the preseason poll from U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA), as announced on Wednesday. The women's team comes in at No. 17, while the men's team is ranked No. 23.
NO. 17 WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY (NO.1 MID-ATLANTIC REGION)
- The Georgetown women enter the season ranked 17th nationally in the USTFCCCA preseason rankings. They are also tabbed as the No. 1 team in the Mid-Atlantic region.
- The Blue & Gray are one of two BIG EAST programs ranked in the preseason top 25, with the other being Providence at No. 15.
- The women's team returns as the reigning BIG EAST Champions, winning its seventh title in program history during the 2021 campaign. Maggie Donahue returns as the reigning BIG EAST individual champion, becoming just the fifth Hoya to win the event. Donahue also earned All-America honors for her performance in the NCAA Cross Country Championships last season.
- The Hoyas return Sami Corman, the 2020 BIG EAST individual champion, and Chloe Gonzalez from a season ago. GU also added graduate transfers Grace Jensen, Katy-Ann McDonald and Andrea Claeson.
- Georgetown finished the 2021 season with an 18th-place showing at the NCAA championships, with Donahue (30th) and Corman (44th) finishing among the top 100.
NO. 23 MEN's CROSS COUNTRY (NO. 2 MID-ATLANTIC REGION)
- The Georgetown men enter the 2022 season ranked 23rd nationally in the USTFCCCA preseason rankings. They are also tabbed as the No. 2 squad in the Mid-Atlantic region.
- The Hoyas are a part of a trio of BIG EAST teams in the preseason top 25 rankings. Villanova comes in at No. 18 nationally and Butler comes in at No. 22 nationally.
- The Hoyas closed the 2021 season with a 22nd-place showing at the NCAA Championships. Shea Weilbaker was the top finisher for the Hoyas as he clocked 30:06.8 over the 10,000-meter race.
- The men return a wealth of talent this season, including Parker Stokes, Shea Weilbaker, Quinn Nicholson, Matthew Payamps, and Price Owens.
- Stokes is the reigning Mid-Atlantic Region cross country champion.
- Owens, Nicholson and Payamps helped the Hoyas to a BIG EAST runner-up finish in 2021, finishing seventh, 11th and 40th, respectively.

Both teams will open the season on Saturday, September 3, in Mechanicsville, Virginia, at the Spider Alumni Open, hosted by the University of Richmond.
