Women’s Lacrosse Announces 2023 Award Winners

WASHINGTON – Head Coach Ricky Fried announced the winners of the 2023 season awards at the Women's Lacrosse Team Banquet. All award winners were voted on by the team. 

Most Valuable Player and Team Star Award: Nicole Massimino 
  • Graduate student Nicole Massimino was honored as the recipient of the Most Valuable Player Award. The defender led the Hoyas with 27 caused turnovers and 33 ground balls.
  • The team captain also was named Second Team All-BIG EAST. 
  • Massimino was also honored with the Team Star Award this season as announced by Head Coach Ricky Fried. The Star Award is given to the player to earn the most stars throughout the season.
Most Improved Player: Mikaila Kitchen 
  • Sophomore Mikaila Kitchen was honored with the Most Improved Player Award. The defender appeared in 16 games for the Hoyas and totaled four caused turnovers and seven ground balls. 
Denis Kanach Unsung Hero Award: Hannah Folau
  • Senior Hannah Folau was honored as the recipient of the Denis Kanach Unsung Hero Award. This award is given to the player who best demonstrates unselfish play and a true team spirit.
Sheehan Stanwick Rookie of the Year: Gracie Driggs
  • Freshman Gracie Driggs was honored with the Sheehan Stanwick Rookie of the Year Award. The Sheehan Stanwick Rookie of the Year Award is given to the first-year player who had the most impact on the team's success.
  • Driggs appeared in 12 games for the Hoyas and tallied six goals and one assist along with one caused turnover and one ground ball. 

Kim Simons Coaches Award: Hayes Anderson 
  • Senior captain Hayes Anderson was honored as the recipient of the Kim Simons Coaches Award. This award is given to the player who best demonstrates the qualities of coachability, positive attitude and leadership.
Bulldog Award: Oliva Buckman
  • Graduate student Oliva Buckman was honored as the recipient of the Bulldog Award. The Bulldog Award is given to a player for their outstanding effort and contribution to the team.
  • The defender started in all 17 games for the Hoyas and totaled 17 caused turnovers and 23 ground balls. 
Red Star Award: Francesca Alpajaro and Molly Byrne 
  • Sophomore Francesca Alpajaro and freshman Molly Byrne were honored as the recipients of the Red Star Award. The Red Star Award is given to the player that best prepared the team for the week's opponent.  
Dr. Christopher Joyner 13th Man Award: Maddie Bozych
  • Athletic Trainer Maddie Bozych was honored with the Dr. Christopher Joyner 13th Man Award. This award is given to the administrator who contributes the most to the program behind the scenes.
