WASHINGTON – A trio of Georgetown University field hockey standouts are participating in the 2024 Senior Nexus Championship (NXC), presented by Osaka Hockey, which will be held at the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center in Virginia Beach this week from July 14-16. Senior Emma van der Veen and sophomore Izzy Lee were earned roster spots while sophomore Ella Fahey was chosen as an alternate.
 
The Senior NXC is held annually and features 144 elite collegiate and post-collegiate athletes. During the spring and early summer, athletes trialed and trained at one of the seven USA Field Hockey High Performance Centers throughout the country for an opportunity to be selected to the Senior NXC. All athletes that were previously named to the U.S. U-18, U-21, and Development Women's National Teams were also included within the selection.
 
Lee will compete for Team London and take on Team Barcelona and Team Mexico City on Monday, July 15 before closing out against Team Lake Placid on Tuesday. Van der Veen will suit up for Team Montreal, playing Team Milan and Team Berlin on Monday before battling Team Rome on Tuesday.
 
Van der Veen played in 15 games for the Hoyas as a junior with five starts while scoring three goals and adding an assist. In her three years on the Hilltop, the Exton, Pennsylvania native has played in 51 games and scored 11 goals with six assists for 28 career points.
 
Lee played in 15 games, starting 12, during her rookie year with the Blue & Gray in 2023. Prior to her joining the Hoyas, she was a standout performer at The Collegiate School in Richmond, Virginia.
 
Fahey played in 12 games as a freshman for Georgetown, starting the final 10 games of the season in goal. A product of Wellesley, Massachusetts, she collected 103 saves and posted a .701 save percentage as a rookie.
