Georgetown Men’s Basketball Hosts Wagner

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University men's basketball team is set to host the Wagner Seahawks in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, November 22, at Capital One Arena. Tipoff is set for noon in the District.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The 2025-26 season marks the third year under Head Coach Ed Cooley. In his second season, Cooley guided Georgetown to doubling its wins from the season before and finishing with an overall record of 18-16 and 8-12 in BIG EAST play. The squad earned a bid to the inaugural College Basketball Crown, advancing to the semifinals before falling to eventual Crown Champions Nebraska.
  • In the last outing, the Hoyas defeated Clemson, 79-74, at Capital One Arena. KJ Lewis led a quartet of Hoyas in double figures with a career-high 26 points to go along with four boards and five steals, while Malik Mack added 16 points with a game-best seven assists, Vince Iwuchukwu contributed 14 points off the bench and Caleb Williams chipped in 13 points alongside a team-high six rebounds.
  • Lewis was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the second-consecutive week following another 2-0 week for the Hoyas. Lewis led the squad tallying 23.0 ppg on 51.7% (15-29) shooting from the floor. He grabbed a squad-best 7.0 rpg while he dished out 1.5 apg and managed 3.0 spg.
  • Last week, Lewis led a trio in double figures to lead Georgetown past the visiting Binghamton Bearcats on Wednesday evening. Iwuchukwu came off the bench to tally an efficient 17 points on 5-for-9 shooting and a 7-for-9 performance from the charity stripe and Mack scored 13 points, all in the second half, on 5-for-11 shooting and a perfect 2-for-2 effort from the charity stripe
  • A quartet of Hoyas are scoring in double figures led by Lewis who is tallying 19.0 ppg, while Mack averages 14.8 ppg, Iwuchukwu manages 11.8 ppg and Caleb Williams notches 10.5 ppg.
  • Lewis leads the Hoyas on the glass with 7.0 rpg, followed by Caleb Williams with 4.8 rpg, while Mack and Iwuchukwu average 4.0 rpg.
  • Mack paces the offense with 14 total assists, followed closely by Jeremiah Williams with 12 and Lewis and Caleb Williams with seven of their own.
  • Before the start of the 2025-26 season, Lewis was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team and Mack was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Third Team. The Hoyas were also selected sixth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • On Tuesday it was announced that Iwuchukwu will undergo a scheduled medical procedure. He is generally in good health and will take a brief recovery period, with a follow up evaluation expected within six to eight weeks. He will return once he is cleared at that evaluation. He is in good spirits and appreciates the support.
 
ABOUT THE SEAHAWKS
  • Wagner enters the matchup with an 0-4 start to the 2025-26 season.
  • The Seahawks closed the 2024-25 season with a 14-16 record and a 6-10 mark in NEC action. Wagner wrapped up the season with a loss to third-seeded Saint Francis, 58-55, in the NEC Championship.
  • In its last outing, Wagner fell to UMBC 71–70 in OT on Sunday night at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. Nick Jones paced the Seahawks with 20 points and five rebounds, while Binael Basil posted 14 points and seven rebounds.
  • Jones leads a duo of Seahawks scoring in double figures with 12.3 ppg, followed by Eddie Placer (12.0).
  • Basil has tallied 20 boards on 5.0 rpg in the first four contests of the season, which leads the team on the glass. Zavier Fitch follows with 18 rebounds of his own on 4.5 rpg.
  • Jayden Baker paces the Wagner offense with 14 assists on the season while Michael Cooper is behind him with five.
  • The Seahawks are led by Interim Head Coach Dwan McMillan in his first season.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Georgetown and Wagner will meet for the fourth time in program history with the Hoyas holding the 3-0 edge in the series.
  • The last meeting between the two teams was November 26, 2024 with the Blue & Gray taking the 66-41 win at McDonough Arena. Mack led a trio of Hoyas in double figures with 16 points on four made field goals, while Micah Peavy added 15 points on four baskets including three 3-pointers, and Jordan Burks came off the bench for his first double-digit outing of the season with 10 points on an efficient 4-for-5 shooting performance. Peavy is playing in the NBA, currently with the New Orleans Pelicans.
  • Cooley maintains a 2-0 record against Wagner.
  • The Hoyas hold a 31-6 record against the Northeast Conference while Cooley is 11-0 against the conference.
