Georgetown Faces George Mason in Midweek Contest

 
WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will face George Mason on Tuesday, February 18 at Capital One Park in Tysons, Va. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, February 19 in Fairfax, Va. but due to field conditions, the game was moved to Tuesday and was moved to Capital One Park. The game will still be considered a Mason home game, and the Hoyas will be the visiting team in the contest with first pitch coming at 2:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown is coming off a 1-2 weekend at Presbyterian. In a doubleheader on Friday, GU dropped both contests by one run.
  • Owen Carapellotti slashed .364/.533/.455 with three RBIs over the weekend. The senior catcher tallied three walks and a double. 
  • Freshman Dylan Larkins was sensational for GU during opening weekend, Larkins slashed .571/.667/.571 while going 4-5 in his first two collegiate games.
  • Jeremy Sheffield had a solid weekend for GU hitting .364 over the weekend. Sheffield recorded his first collegiate hit on Friday in game one against Presbyterian.
  • The Blue & Gray tallied six extra base hits and two home runs during the season opening series. Graduate student Kavi Caster picked up where he left off a season ago hitting GU's first homer of the season in the first game of the doubleheader on Friday.
  • GU recorded its highest RPI ranking in program history a season ago finishing 59th nationally.
  • Georgetown returns 22 players from a 2024 squad that reached the BIG EAST Championship after winning a program-record 36 games. The 2024 campaign also marked the first time the Blue & Gray has had three-consecutive 30-win seasons in program history.
  • Head Coach Edwin Thompson enters his fifth season on the Hilltop after guiding the Hoyas to its most successful season in program history in 2024 posting a 36-21 record. Thompson has guided the Blue & Gray to three-consecutive 30-win seasons for the first time in program history. 2024 also marked the first time in the Thompson era that Georgetown has had a player selected in the MLB Draft in back-to-back seasons, as Everett Catlett was taken by the Colorado Rockies in the 12th round of the 2024 MLB Draft and Jake Bloss was taken in the third round by the Houston Astros in 2023.
 
ABOUT GEORGE MASON
  • George Mason enters Tuesday's contest with a 1-2 record after securing a 7-3 win on Friday at East Carolina. Connor Knox picked up the win on the mound tossing three hitless innings. 
  • Owen Clyne had a solid opening weekend for George Mason, slashing .286/.583/.286 while adding an RBI and five walks. 
  • Connor O'Hara and Connor Knox led the way for Mason on the mound in their lone win of the weekend, tossing a combined seven innings. O'Hara went four frames before Knox tossed three hitless innings en route to a 7-3 victory over East Carolina.

The Hoyas will be back in action this weekend as GU hosts Sacred Heart for a three-game series. Game one is slated for Friday, February 21 with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. at Capital One Park in Tysons, Virginia. A link to live stats and a live stream will be available on GUHoyas.com.
