WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's track & field program delivered a standout performance on day two of the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The highlight of the day came from the men's Distance Medley Relay (DMR) team, who blazed to a first-place finish with a time of 3:16.20.
Head Coach Alton McKenzie
"The Penn Relays are always an exciting event for us as as a program. What makes it special is having the opportunity to run relays as a team and seeing our student-athletes fight and compete for their teammates. Our women's DMR were gallant in their effort and really made us proud being in it with a chance with a lap to go. What can I say about our Men's SMR? When you have one of the best 800m runners in the country you always have a chance, and Tinoda's anchor leg was one of patience and perfect timing. Not bad having three freshmen and a sophomore come together to deliver another SMR title for our program. Looking forward to seeing our men and women line up again on Saturday!!"
Assistant Coach Brandon Bonsey
"Penn Relays is always a very fun meet. What makes relays like this even more fun is different training groups coming together. Coach McKenzie did an excellent job of having his sprinters ready to go and I was happy to have Tinoda ready to compete well. These relays are the ultimate team event. It shows how close our team is overall across event categories."
Assistant Coach Mitchell Baker
"We've been chipping away at putting together women's mid-distance relays that competed for wins here; today the team took a big step forward in our most competitive effort arguably since the 2016 team won this event. To run the fastest all-seasons DMR in school history says a lot about the quality of these athletes and their run today, just as coming out 3rd says a lot about the competitiveness of the field. It's hard to believe you can win, harder still to win, but this group chases those moments and will be back out tomorrow to go for it again."
