Box Score WASHINGTON – The No. 16 Georgetown University women's soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 25 Vanderbilt on Thursday evening in Nashville, Tennessee. With the loss GU slides to 2-1-2 on the season while Vanderbilt improves to 5-1.
Head Coach Dave Nolan
"This was certainly a tough loss for the girls. Vanderbilt put us under some real pressure in the first half, playing a little more direct and pressing us hard. This wasn't something we have faced this year, and it looked like we had weathered the storm. Unfortunately, we struggled with them on set pieces, and they scored very late in the first half off a corner when we had a smaller lineup on the field.
We made some adjustments for the second half, and we certainly carried the game to them creating a number of good chances. Unfortunately, we couldn't quite take one and here we are with our first loss of the season. However, this is a really tough stretch of games, and we have to now get ready for South Carolina on Sunday at home which will be another huge challenge. The girls won't be feeling sorry for themselves, and they know we played well on the road against a good SEC team and they will take some confidence from tonight.
We had a number of really strong performances tonight, both
Kaya Hanson, and Izzy Boodell helped marshal our back line against some real pressure.
Cassie Delinsky and
Natalie Means worked tirelessly along the flanks and I thought
Esme Brayshaw and
Maja Lardner really tried putting the team on their backs in an effort to draw us level. I am very proud of the overall effort tonight, feeling that if we get that every game we play we will be very hard to beat."
