No. 5 Hoyas Travel to Face Penn in Delayed Season Opener

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's fifth-ranked men's lacrosse team finally gets a chance to kick off the 2026 season with a road trek to face Penn in Philadelphia on Saturday. Opening faceoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Franklin Field following two weeks of games delayed by weather issues.

On the Air
  • Saturday's game will be shown on ESPN+ with Joey Lindstrom and George Corrigan calling the action.
  • A link to live stats will also be available at GUHoyas.com.
About Georgetown
  • The Hoyas are ranked fifth in both the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coaches Poll and the Kane Inside Lacrosse Media Poll to start the season.
  • Six Hoyas garnered Preseason All-BIG EAST recognition with Ty Banks, Anderson Moore and Ross Prince each earning unanimous nods while Rory Connor, Robert Plath and Jack Ransom picked up honors as well. Banks, the reigning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year, was also selected as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year by the league's coaches.
  • Five Hoyas also collected preseason All-America honors, with Ty Banks earning second team and Liam Connor earning third team accolades from Inside Lacrosse, USA Lacrosse Magazine and USILA. Rory Connor, Moore and Prince were all preseason honorable mention selections by Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine as well.
  • Georgetown returns seven of its top-10 scorers from a year ago, including Ransom (31G, 5A), Kevin Miller (18G, 10A), Joe Cesare (19G, 7A), Jordan Wray (11G, 8A), Patrick Crogan (9G, 5A), Lucas Dudemaine (7G, 6A) and Pax Marshall (5G, 3A).
  • The Hoyas will miss the graduation of their top two scorers – Aidan Carroll and Fulton Bayman – who combined for 140 points, but welcome transfers Liam Connor and Rory Connor from Colgate. The brothers combined for 172 points in 2025 for the Patriot League champions.
  • Defensively, Banks anchors a close defense that held opponents to 9.12 goals per game last season, seventh-best in the NCAA. Also back is Plath who started all 17 games for the Hoyas at close defense as a rookie and was credited with a Georgetown freshman record 27 caused turnovers.
  • Moore, the returning BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year and a USILA Honorable Mention All-American in 2025, ranked seventh overall in Division I with a 9.01 GAA last year.
  • Prince returns for his sophomore campaign after being named the BIG EAST Freshman and Co-Specialist of the year last season. He won 63 percent of his faceoffs as a rookie, seventh-best in the NCAA a year ago.
Scouting Penn
  • Penn takes the field for the first time this season under first year head coach Taylor Wray. Wray spent the past 14 seasons as the head coach at Saint Joseph's.
  • The Quakers return four players who scored at least 10 points last season, including leading scorer Griffin Scane with 30 points (25G, 5A). Also back is David Provost's 24 points (17G, 7A), Leo Hoffman's 15 (4G, 11A) and Nate Luchessi's 10 (4G, 6A).
  • Back are Penn's top-two faceoff specialists from last year's injury depleted squad – Stevie Davis and Will Roberts – as well as a pair of standouts returning from early season injuries in Ethan Costanzo and Mac Eldridge.
  • Defensively, Penn will rely on long poles Matthew Till and Ryan McLaughlin who combined for 20 caused turnovers and 31 ground balls following the graduation of All-American Brendan Lavelle, the fifth overall pick in the 2025 Premier Lacrosse League Draft.
  • In goal, the Quakers replace All-American Emmett Carroll, the 20th overall pick in the 2025 PLL Draft. None of the four goalies on Penn's roster has seen any collegiate action.
Series History
  • Georgetown and Penn have played six times including each of the past four seasons with the Hoyas winning the last two meetings.
  • The Hoyas hold a 5-1 series lead and Georgetown is 3-0 all-time against the Quakers when playing in Philadelphia.
