Georgetown Women’s Lacrosse Defeats No. 5/6 Johns Hopkins

Box Score WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (3-1) pulled off a dominant upset on Tuesday afternoon, defeating No. 5/6 Johns Hopkins (4-1) 12-6 at Homewood Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Johns Hopkins jumped out to an early lead with a Taylor Hoss goal just a minute into the contest. However, the Hoyas' veteran core responded immediately. Gracie Driggs leveled the score at 1-1, followed by a free-position strike from Sophia Loschert and an Anne McGovern goal that gave Georgetown a 3-1 lead heading into the break.
  • The second frame was a defensive battle. After JHU narrowed the gap to one, McGovern converted a crucial man-up free-position shot to keep the momentum on the Georgetown sideline. A late goal by McGovern with just 14 seconds remaining in the half gave the Hoyas a 5-3 lead heading into the locker room.
  • The Blue Jays attempted a comeback, pulling within one goal twice during the third period. Each time JHU surged, Georgetown had an answer. After a man-up goal by JHU's Paige Willard made it 6-5, McGovern and Loschert struck back-to-back in the final three minutes of the quarter to push the lead back to 8-5.
  • The final 15 minutes belonged entirely to the Blue & Gray. Gracie Driggs ignited a 4-1 scoring run to open the period. While JHU's Taylor Hoss managed to find the net at the 10:53 mark, the Hoya defense went into "lockdown mode" for the remainder of the game. Late goals by Sophia Loschert and Lauren Steer iced the contest, securing the six-goal margin of victory.
