WASHINGTON – Following a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Delaware, the No. 18/19 Georgetown women's lacrosse team (5-2) travels to Sparks, Maryland, this Sunday, March 15. The Hoyas will face the University of Pennsylvania at 1 p.m. at Tierney Field, located at the USA Lacrosse Headquarters.
ABOUT THE HOYAS
Georgetown enters Sunday's matchup on a high note after a gritty 9-8 win over Delaware last weekend. The Hoyas showed late-game poise, using a five-goal fourth quarter and a game-winner from
Molly Byrne with just 27 seconds remaining to seal the victory.
The Blue & Gray defense remains the team's calling card, currently ranked fifth nationally and first in the BIG EAST in scoring defense, allowing just 7.29 goals per game. Goalkeeper
Leah Warehime leads the conference in goals-against average (7.48) and ranks 13th in the nation in save percentage (.500).
Offensively, the Hoyas are paced by Annie McGovern, who leads the team with 27 points. McGovern ranks top-10 in the BIG EAST in points, goals, and assists per game, currently pacing the Hoya attack with a team-high 18 goals. She is joined by senior
Gracie Driggs, a Tewaaraton Award Watch List selection who was recently named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the third time this season. Driggs, who joined the program's exclusive 100-goal club earlier this season against Maryland, has netted 17 goals on the year.
In the center circle, Driggs remains the focal point of the Hoya possession game. After securing eight draw controls last Saturday to fuel a dominant 16-3 team advantage, she officially moved into third place all-time in program history with 222 career draw controls. She currently ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in draw controls per game (4.14).
ABOUT THE QUAKERS
Penn (2-4) travels to Sparks after a ranked battle at No. 6 Florida on Wednesday, where they fell 18-9 to the Gators. The Quakers are led offensively by Catherine Berkery, who has 22 points (17G, 5A) on the season, and Lela Greene, who netted her first hat trick of the season in the Gainesville clash.
In net, Orly Sedransk has seen all of the action for the Quakers this season, recording 57 saves across six starts.
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
This is the 13th meeting between these two programs. The Hoyas are looking to snap a four-game losing streak against the Quakers and get their first win in the series since 2019.
