WASHINGTON – Freshman midfielder
Betsy Burton of the No. 23 Georgetown University women's lacrosse team has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference on Monday. The recognition follows a career-best defensive performance in the Hoyas' neutral-site matchup against Penn at the USA Lacrosse Headquarters.
Burton delivered a standout effort off the bench in Sparks, Maryland, providing an elite defensive spark for the Blue & Gray. The freshman led all players in the contest with a career-high four caused turnovers and tied for the team lead with three ground balls. Burton played a key role in Georgetown's transition and possession game, recording a career-high three draw controls and providing an assist on a man-up goal during a high-scoring second quarter.
Through eight games this season, the Chatham, New Jersey, native has become a vital contributor to the Hoya defense, totaling 13 ground balls, 10 caused turnovers, and eight draw controls. This marks the first career BIG EAST weekly honor for Burton.
