No. 23 Georgetown Opens BIG EAST Play at Marquette

WASHINGTON – The No. 23 Georgetown women's lacrosse team (5-3) begins conference action this Saturday, March 21, as they travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to face the Marquette University Golden Eagles (5-3). Opening draw is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. EST at Valley Fields.

ABOUT THE HOYAS

Georgetown enters conference play looking to bounce back from a narrow 11-10 non-conference loss to Penn last Sunday. Despite the result, the Hoyas remain a force on both ends of the field, led by a defense that ranks ninth in the NCAA in scoring defense, allowing just 7.75 goals per game.

Sophia Loschert enters the weekend following a standout performance against the Quakers, where she netted a team-high three goals and collected three ground balls. One of three Hoyas named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, Loschert ranks third on the team in points (19) and has been a primary threat on the attack.

Gracie Driggs continues her historic season, recently moving into second place all-time in program history with 224 career draw controls. A unanimous Preseason All-BIG EAST selection, Driggs ranks second on the squad in points (24) and leads the Hoyas in shot percentage among high-volume shooters (.500). She is joined by fellow preseason honoree Kendall Steer, who anchors the Hoya defensive unit.

Annie McGovern currently paces the Hoya offense, leading the team in goals (20), assists (10), and total points (30). McGovern's 3.75 points per game ranks fifth in the BIG EAST, making her a focal point for the Golden Eagle defense.
I
n the cage, Leah Warehime has been a pillar for the Blue & Gray, recently recording six saves against Penn. Warehime ranks 20th nationally in save percentage (.479) and maintains a strong 7.93 goals-against average heading into the league schedule.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES

Marquette (5-3) enters the weekend on a high note, led by a high-powered offense that features three players with over 20 points. The Golden Eagles are led offensively by Dani Serrano, who has 37 points (19 G, 18 A) on the season, and Tess Osburn, who leads the team with 24 goals. In net, Jillian Howell and Mikayla Yang have shared time for the Golden Eagles, combining for 60 saves on the season to anchor the Marquette defense.

ABOUT THE MATCHUP

This is the 16th meeting between these two programs. The Hoyas hold an 11-4 advantage in the all-time series and enter Saturday looking to extend a two-game winning streak against the Golden Eagles. Georgetown won the last meeting in 2025, a thrilling 14-13 victory at Cooper Field.
