Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University volleyball team lost to UMBC tonight, 3-0, at the RAC Arena in Baltimore, Md. Georgetown drops to a 4-14 overall slate this season while the Retrievers improve to 16-4 on the year. Game scores were 21-30, 15-30, 20-30.

The Georgetown offense was led by sophomore Dana Dumas (Nokomis, Fla./Pine View) who tallied eight kills and pitched in another 10 digs. Classmate Kortney Robinson (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) followed up with seven kills and nine digs while junior Katherine Niesen (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) added five kills and a .231 hitting percentage. Junior setter Caitlin Boland (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy)pitched in 28 assists and two kills on five attempts for a .400 hitting percentage. A disappointing negative hitting percentage in game one set the tone of the match for the Blue and Gray. Despite keeping the close score and even tying it up at nine points apiece after a Robinson kill, but UMBC took 11 of the next 14 points to take a 20-12 lead. The Retrievers held on to the lead and took game one, 30-21.

Game two saw the Hoyas fall behind quickly as UMBC took a 13-6 lead prompting a GU timeout. UMBC continued the nearly flawless play as they committed just three errors on attack in the entire game for a .484 hitting percentage. The Retrievers led by as many as 13 points (25-12) prompting the second GU break before closing out game two behind three UMBC kills and a block.

Georgetown fell behind in game three as UMBC maintained its competitive hitting percentage (.364) tallying 14 kills on 33 attempts with two errors. After a break called by GU, UMBC garnered seven of the next nine points inducing the second Hoya timeout as they trailed 26-14. The Blue and Gray gained momentum winning four-consecutive points behind three kills and a service ace, but an ace from UMBC's Angela Anderson followed up by a kill ended game three and the match.

The Hoyas return to the court on Friday, October 5 when they travel to Milwaukee, Wis. for an 8 p.m. match at Marquette. Georgetown is still in search of its first BIG EAST Conference win of the season.
