Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University volleyball team lost to Louisville, 3-0, this afternoon in McDonough Arena. The Hoyas drop to 4-12 overall on the year with a 0-2 slate in the BIG EAST Conference, while the Cardinals improve to 7-4 overall, 2-0 in league play. Game scores were 24-30, 23-30, 18-30.

Sophomore outside hitter Jessica Hardy (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) led the team in kills (10) for the sixth-consecutive match. Junior Katherine Niesen (Gainesville, Fla./Eastside) followed up with seven kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Sophomore Kortney Robinson (Pleasant Grove, Utah./Pleasant Grove) chipped in seven kills and added eight digs. Freshman Mary Dwyer (Santa Barbara, Calif./Laguna Blanca) led the team with 10 kills while junior captain Caitlin Boland (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) led the team in assists (26).

Despite the Cardinals taking a quick lead to start the match (6-2), the Hoyas played nearly flawless volleyball for a 20-point span and pulled within two points (15-13) behind seven GU kills including three credited to Robinson, vital blocking efforts from Niesen and Hardy and a few errant Louisville plays. However, five kills in the next seven points swung the momentum back to Louisville as they took a 20-15 lead prompting a Georgetown timeout. The break helped the Hoyas as they were able to play even with the Cardinals, however, the cushion of a five-point lead as enough for Louisville as they took game one 30-24.

In game two, Georgetown took its biggest lead of the match, 20-16, behind the serve of Boland. The game remained close with the Hoyas pulling away as sophomore Courtney Cohen (Tampa, Fla./Berkeley Prep) turned in four-straight brilliant points. Cohen recorded a kill, an assisted block with classmate Kiersten McKoy (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd), a solo block and an assist on a Robinson kill. However, an 11-point run for the Cardinals sandwiching two Georgetown timeouts would put an end to game two as the Louisville took a commanding 27-20 lead that was only ended by a Cardinal service error. Louisville's Jana Matiasovska pitched in two more kills in game two before Svetlana Dukule ended game two with a kill of her own.

In game three, Georgetown kept the game close to start, tying the game at five points apiece on a wayward play from Louisville. However, the Cardinals picked up 10 of the next 12 points for a 15-7 lead triggering a Georgetown timeout. GU could not make up any ground, trading points with Louisville and still trailing by nine (23-14) but back-to-back service aces from Robinson gave the Hoyas one last surge of adrenaline. The Hoyas were unable to translate the momentum into points as they committed three errors while Louisville continued to put up kills. Back-to-back kills form Louisville sealed game three and the match.

The Hoyas continue with BIG EAST Conference action on Friday, September 28 when they travel to Piscataway, N.J. for a 7 p.m. match at Rutgers.
