Probable Pitching Matchup ...
Wednesday

Georgetown: RHP Nick Leonard (Washington, D.C./Maret) - 1-0, 3.60 ERA
Hoya Notes ...
On Monday, freshman right-handed pitcher Kevin Superko (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley/Phillips Andover) was named the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week. Superko was absolutely dominant in picking up his second win of the season as the Hoyas completed the doubleheader sweep on Sunday. He pitched 8.1 innings with 10 strikeouts, both of which are career highs for Superko and season highs for the Georgetown pitching staff. He gave up just two hits while not walking anyone. After allowing a leadoff single on Sunday, which was promptly erased on a caught stealing, Superko retired 24-consecutive batters until a one-out single in the ninth. He lowered his season ERA 75 points from 4.73 to 3.98.
The Hoyas are coming off of a stretch of playing nine games in eight days, in which time they went 6-3 including winning six of the past seven games. During that stretch, Georgetown had several highlights including the pitching staff going a span of 21 innings, over three games, without allowing an earned run. GU has now had five games, including three shutouts, in which the opponent has not scored an earned run.
Georgetown and Navy met back on March 18 in Annapolis, with the Hoyas riding a 14-hit attack, including three each from Ryan Busch (Falcon Heights, Minn./Roseville Area) and Nick Collins (Carthage, N.C./Union Pines), to an 8-1 victory.
Simon Mathews (West Haven, Conn./Hopkins School) made his first start in a Hoya uniform and went three innings, giving up one run on two hits while striking out two, to earn his first win of the season. On a day labeled as a "staff day," four relievers had scoreless outings. Joseph Bialkowski (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton) was on base three times, scored two runs and had two RBI while Chase Bushor (San Diego, Calif./Santa Fe Christian) had two hits and two RBI.
Scouting Navy ...
Navy comes in with a 31-17 overall record and a 13-7 mark in the Patriot League. The Midshipmen are batting .281 as a team while the pitching staff has a 3.00 ERA with 407 strikeouts on the season.
Sean Trent leads the offense with a .412 batting average and 36 RBI, ranking seventh in the country in batting average. He is 80-for-194 this season, starting all 49 games, and has 17 doubles and three triples. Robert Currie is hitting .328 with 32 RBI and Adrian Chinnery is also over .300, hitting at a .319 clip. Jett Meenach has a 1.11 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 20 appearances out of the bullpen, covering 40.2 innings. His three saves are tied for the team lead with Sam Sorenson, who has a 2.14 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 19 relief appearances, covering 42 innings.
Last Time Out ...
The Hoyas took two out of three games last weekend in a key BIG EAST series at Xavier. After dropping Friday's series opener, GU swept Sunday's doubleheader, 4-1 and 2-1. Matt Smith (Cranberry, Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) pitched six innings in the opener, striking out eight to secure the win. AC Carter (Winter Park, Fla./Orangewood Christian) had a two-run double and Ellingson picked up his eighth save of the season. In game two, Busch had a solo home run and Superko pitched 8.1 innings with 10 strikeouts, retiring 24-consecutive batters at one point. Mathews recorded the final two outs for his first save.
