Keklak Named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week

Feb. 16, 2016

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University track & field All-American Andrea Keklak (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury/Princeton) was named the BIG EAST Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday. The honor comes after the Hoya women, ranked No. 11 by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) weekly computer rankings, competed at the BU Valentine Invitational on Friday night.

Keklak ran a school-record 4:33.24 in the women's mile to set a new school record in the event. She finished eighth overall in the race and was the top collegiate finisher in the stacked field. Keklak's time is the third-fastest collegiate mile this season and tops the BIG EAST Conference's list.

Her time broke All-American Katrina Coogan's (Exeter, N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy) previous record of 4:33.44, set during the 2014 season. This is the third school record for Keklak this season as she previously set a school record in the women's 1,000-meter run and ran the leadoff leg of the record-setting women's distance medley relay (DMR).

This is the second BIG EAST weekly award of Keklak's career, with the previous recognition occurring earlier this season on Feb. 3.

On Monday, the men's team moved back into the USTFCCCA national rankings as they are now tabbed No. 15.

The Hoyas return to action on Saturday, Feb. 20 with the Penn State Tune-Up held at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track in State College, Pa.

The Rundown
• The Hoyas have earned a BIG EAST Conference weekly track honor four out of the last five weeks and the last three-consecutive weeks.
• Andrea Keklak's 4:33.24 in the women's mile is the fourth school record set since Director of Track & Field / Cross Country Michael Smith took over the program.
• Keklak has now set three school records in the same season with the 1,000m (Jan. 16), mile (Feb. 12) and led off the women's DMR (Jan. 29).
