April 3, 2016 Final Stats
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The Georgetown University baseball team fell, 16-2, in the rubber match of its three-game series with the College of William & Mary on Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park. With the loss GU fell to 13-16 on the season, while the Tribe improved to 14-12.
Michael DeRenzi (Mendham, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) had two hits on the day, including a triple, while Beau Hall (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) and Eric Webber (Stockton, Calif./Saint Mary's) each had two base knocks.
Kevin Superko (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley/Phillips Andover) started on the mound and went four innings, giving up four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out three. Max Allen (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) threw a perfect inning in relief with three strikeouts.
The Hoyas took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Austin Shirley (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga) led off with a walk, advanced to second on a wild pickoff attempt and moved to third on a fly out from Jake Kuzbel (Ashburn, Va./Stone Ridge). He crossed the plate on a two-out RBI single past the first baseman from Joseph Bialkowski (Raleigh, N.C./Needham B. Broughton).
Williams & Mary put four runs on the board in the bottom of the third on two walks, three hits and a sacrifice fly to take a 4-1 lead.
The Tribe added four more runs, three earned, off of Casey Goldenberg (North Palm Beach, Fla./Suncoast Community) in the bottom of the fifth to extend their advantage to 8-1. They tacked on a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth off of Jimmy Swad (Washington, D.C./St. Albans).
Consecutive two-out singles in the top of the seventh from Hall, Webber and Dante Ricciardi (West Boylston, Mass./Worcester Academy) produced a run, with the latter hit scoring Hall from second to cut the deficit to 9-2.
William & Mary opened things up with seven runs in the bottom of the eighth off of Jordan Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill./New Trier/Lawrenceville) and Anthony Morabito (Lansdale, Pa./La Salle College HS).
The Hoyas will return home to Shirley Povich Field for a midweek matchup against Navy. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 3 p.m. Next weekend, Georgetown will head back out on the road to open BIG EAST action, playing a three-game series at conference-rival St. John's in Queens, N.Y.

DeRenzi's single in the third inning extended his hitting streak to 14 games ... Shirley's double in the eighth inning was his seventh double of the season, tying him for the team lead, and sixth in his past seven games, including five-consecutive games.
