WASHINGTON - Georgetown University volleyball's junior standout Symone Speech (Oak Park, Ill./Oak Park-River Forest) eclipsed the 1,000 career kills milestone in a 3-0 (25-12, 25-9, 25-18) loss at Marquette in BIG EAST action on Friday evening.

Entering Friday's match with 995 career kills, Speech became just the 14th player in GU history to reach 1,000 with her first kill of the third set. She joins just 126 other active players with 1,000 career kills. Of those, only five of them are student-athletes on rival BIG EAST teams and 19 are fellow juniors.

Speech led the Hoyas with 11 kills on the day while Alyssa Sinnette (Pearland, Texas/Dawson) added five and Olivia King (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) had four. Sinnette finished just shy of matching her classmate on the 1,000 career kill list and now sits at 999 for her three-year career.

Kenzie Higareda (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) anchored the defense with a match-high 16 digs.

With the loss, Georgetown falls to 7-20 overall and 1-14 in league play. The Golden Eagles improve to 19-8 overall and 13-3 in BIG EAST competition.

Jenna Rosenthal led Marquette with 13 kills while Allie Barber added 10.

Georgetown returns action on Sunday as it wraps up its road schedule at DePaul. First serve is set for 2 p.m. EST.
