WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Football Head Coach
Rob Sgarlata has announced the team's captains for the 2018 season. Seniors
Blaise Brown (New Orleans, La. / St. Augustine / Loomis Chaffee),
Ramon Lyons (Orlando, Fla. / Ocoee / West Orange),
Carl Thomas (Floirissant, Mo. / Lutheran North) and
Brandon Williams (Germantown, Md. / Northwest) will lead the Hoyas this fall.
"Since the start of 2018 these four seniors have been members of our Hoya Leadership Council," Sgarlata said. "As members of the Council they were tasked with defining the Hoya football culture. They have worked extremely well together on and off of the field towards this goal. I am looking forward to seeing Brandon, Carl, Blaise and Ramon continue their journey and development as the servant leaders of our program.
Brown started all 11 games in the defensive backfield last season, tying or the team lead with two interceptions, while ranking fourth on the squad with 66 total tackles. He recorded both interceptions in Georgetown's matchup with Harvard at RFK Stadium, while registering seven games with at least seven tackles, including three games with nine tackles
Lyons appeared in all 11 games as a junior, making 10 starts. He was fifth in tackles with 63 and second with 10 pass breakups, which ranked fourth in the Patriot League. He had a career-high 10 tackles against Marist, while also recording three pass breakups against the Red Foxes and at Lehigh.
Thomas is GU's lone senior in the running back corps. Last season, he was second among the running backs with 37 carries and was third with 95 total rushing yards. He also caught eight passes for 36 yards, including a touchdown reception against Columbia.
Williams, the 2018 No. 35 Joe Eacobacci Memorial Jersey recipient, is Georgetown's active career leader with 74 receptions and 917 receiving yards. He was second on the Hoyas last season with 24 catches and 346 receiving yards, averaging 14.4 yards per catch and 43.2 yards per game.
The Hoyas open the 2018 season on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Marist. Kickoff in Poughkeepsie, New York is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Blue & Gray will play its home opener at Cooper Field the following weekend, hosting Campbell on Sept. 8 for a 12:30 p.m. matchup.
