Georgetown Opens Spring Break at Westin Lake Mary Stetson Invitational

WASHINGTON – Coming off its first win of the season, the Georgetown University baseball team travels to Florida for its annual eight game, 10-day spring break trip. The Hoyas will open the trip this weekend with three games at the Westin Lake Mary Stetson Invitational, hosted by Stetson in DeLand, Florida, where they will face Sacred Heart (Friday, 1 p.m.), Stetson (Saturday, 7 p.m.) and Saint Louis (Sunday, 11 a.m.). Georgetown (1-6) broke into the win column on Wednesday afternoon with a resounding 14-4 victory over George Washington. The offense broke out for 15 hits while from Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas / Marcus) struck out four in 7.0 strong innings in his first start of the year. Michael Willis (Baltimore, Md. / Gilman), in his first collegiate game, was on base five times with four singles and a walk and also drove in a pair of runs. Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif. / San Ramon Valley) had three hits, was on base four times and drove in four runs while scoring twice. Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington & Lee University) was on base five times with two doubles and two walks while scoring four runs. Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla. / San Ramon Valley [Calif.]) had a pair of hits and three RBIs.
 
Kai Nelson (New York, N.Y. / Fieldston) leads the GU offense on the season with a .375 (7 for 20) batting average and is one of three Hoyas with three doubles on the year. Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Norwalk) has a team-high nine hits to go with a .321 (9 for 28) batting average, while Ryan P. Davis (Oak Hill, Va. / Oakton) is hitting .318 (7 for 22). Weisenberg has a team-leading five RBIs.
 
The Hoyas will open the weekend against Sacred Heart (2-3), looking to avenge a 6-5 loss to the Pioneers two weeks ago. Stephen Thibault leads Sacred Heart with a .333 (5 for 15) batting average and is tied for the team lead with two doubles. Joe Emerson had a team-high four RBIs.
 
Stetson enters the weekend with a 1-6 record after dropping two of three to Siena last weekend. In 2018, the Hatters advanced to the Super Regionals, falling to North Carolina in two games. Stetson is led by Austin Bogart who has a .423 (11 for 26) batting average and Jonathan Meola leads the leads the team with six doubles.
 
Saint Louis is 3-4 to start the year after dropping two of three last weekend at Loyola Marymount. The Billikens are led by Corrigan Bartlett (8 for 24) and Ben Livorsi (6 for 18) who each are batting .333. Jake Garella has team highs of nine hits and five doubles, and is tied for the team lead with five RBIs.

Following the three games at Stetson, the Hoyas will make the short trip down to Port Charlotte, Florida, where they will play five games next week at the Snowbird Baseball Classic. Georgetown will match up against Mount St. Mary's (March 5), Western Michigan (March 6), Ball State (March 8), Kansas (March 9) and Saint Joseph's (March 10).
