Past, Present and Future Hoyas to Race in Prestigious Millrose Games on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University track & field teams will be well represented in New York City this weekend as five past, present and future Hoyas will be competing in the 112th NYRR Millrose Games, the world's longest-running, most prestigious indoor track & field competition. Two of Georgetown's alumni Amos Bartelsmeyer (SFS '18) and Rachel Schneider (N '13, SCS '15) will be running in the men's mile and the women's 3,000-meter run, respectively. Current fifth-year student Joe White (Clifton, N.J. / DePaul Catholic) will be competing in the men's 800-meter run. Incoming freshmen Shea Weilbaker and Tim McInerney will face off in the high school mile event. All of the events will be held at the Armory in Washington Heights, New York.

Bartelsmeyer was an All-American and a BIG EAST champion for the Blue & Gray. He played an instrumental part in three of the men's BIG EAST Cross Country Championships from 2015 to 2017 and garnered multiple awards during both track seasons. Schneider was also an All-American and is currently the Georgetown record holder in the women's 1,000-meter run, which she set back in 2013.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to race at the Millrose Games tomorrow in the Allen Steinfeld Mile," said Bartelsmeyer. "I recently moved to Seattle and am now coached by Andy Powell. My training has been going really well. I've raced twice thus far this indoor season and have had breakthroughs in both races, so I'm hoping to keep the momentum going this weekend. After this race, I fly to Frankfurt to prepare for the German Indoor Championships where I will be competing for a spot on the European Indoor team. I also want to take this opportunity to thank my coaches at Georgetown for putting me in a position to continue running post-collegiately. They have always believed in me, and I wouldn't be here today without them."

"Millrose is a really special meet," said Schneider. "Historically, it's always been a major world indoor competition, and it's always an honor to get to come and compete at this venue with such stellar athletes. The Armory atmosphere is electric and it's a great place to run fast times. I'm in the midst of a big strength training block with racing the 3K, especially after racing a 10K at USATF Cross Country Championships last weekend. It should be a fun and fast way to mix it up a bit as we continue to get ready for a big outdoor season."

White earned his All-America honors during the outdoor season of 2016. He holds several records including the indoor 800-meter run at Iowa State in 2017 where he clocked a time of 1:46.44. One week later, he ran the 800-meter leg of the distance medley relay (DMR) to help the Hoyas qualify for nationals. His 800-meter carry was the fastest in program history with a time of 1:45.8.

"I'm looking forward to competing at the Millrose Games," said White. "I am very excited and honored to compete at such a prestigious meet. My training has been going very well and the race includes some of the best runners in the country, so competing well and running fast is what I'm looking forward to most."

Incoming freshmen Weilbaker and McInerney will look to build off two very successful high school careers. Weilbaker is a three-time New York State Champion while McInerney was the runner-up in the 2018 New Jersey Meet of Champions 1,600-meter race.

"I see Millrose a great opportunity to test myself against a lot of really talented runners," said Weilbaker. "It is also awesome to know that there are numerous future, present and past Hoyas competing this weekend. I'm hoping to make a statement this weekend with where I'm at fitness wise."

"I come from a team that breeds that winning feeling," said McInerney. "That was a big factor in making my college decision, and a large reason for choosing Georgetown. That being said, I have prepared for, thought about and breathed the mindset of winning this historical race for the past year. So that's what I'm after; that winning feeling."

The 112th NYRR Millrose Games will be televised live nationally by NBC Sports from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9th and live streamed on USATF.TV from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
