WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's track & field program heads to University Park, Pennsylvania for the second time this season to compete in the Penn State National Open this Friday and Saturday.
The Hoyas are coming off an impressive weekend that saw
Tinoda Matsatsa set a new NCAA record for the indoor 1k and
Melissa Riggins set a new school record for the women in the same event.

About the Georgetown Men
- Freshman Tinoda Matsatsa is coming off an outstanding Hokie Invitational where he set a new NCAA record for the 1000m with his 20:18.05 time. His performance earned him NCAA Runner of the Week and BIG EAST Track Athlete of the Week honors. He has won all three races he's competed in this season.
- Four other Hoyas set personal bests in the 1000m at Virginia Tech: Abel Teffra took third, Matthew Payamps fourth, and Parker Stokes fifth.
- Tim McInerney has had a strong start as well, setting a new personal best of 1:19.21 to win the 600m last weekend.
- Georgetown's men's track program was ranked No. 9 in the Mid-Atlantic in a competitive 32-team region.
About the Georgetown Women
- Melissa Riggins has been the talk of the town following her performance this past weekend. She set a new school record with a 2:40.67 finish in the 1000m.
- In the 300m Rebecca Ochan continued her strong season setting a new personal best of 38.95 to finish second.
- A trio of Hoyas impressed in the 400m last weekend. Maya Drayton led the way taking second, with Kaira Brown in fourth and Grace Smiechowski in ninth.
- The women were ranked No. 11 in the Mid-Atlantic Region poll released by USTFCCCA this Monday.
