Women's Lacrosse Hosts No. 3 Maryland in Home Opener

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team (2-0) returns to the Hilltop this Wednesday, February 18, for a top-tier home opener at Cooper Field. The Hoyas will host local rival and No. 3 Maryland at 7 p.m.

  • Wednesday's game is set for a 7 p.m. opening draw and will be shown on ESPN+ with Monika Moore calling the action.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown is off to a perfect 2-0 start following a dominant 17-9 road win over Towson this past weekend.
  • Anne McGovern was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. She leads the team in scoring (8G, 2A) and points (10) and ranks 19th nationally in goals per game (4.00).
  • Junior defender Molly Wood currently ranks second in the nation in caused turnovers per game (4.00).
  • Gracie Driggs is coming off a game where she secured her 200th career draw control and remains just one goal shy of her 100th career goal.
  • The Hoya defense ranks 10th nationally in scoring defense, allowing only 6.00 goals per game.
 
ABOUT THE TERPS
  • Maryland defeated Virginia 17-9 at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on Saturday, February 14.
  • The Terrapins are led by Lauren LaPointe, who has six goals and three assists on the season.
  • Goalkeeper JJ Suriano leads the team with 29 saves for a .674 save percentage.
 
ABOUT THE MATCHUP
  • This is the 18th meeting between these two programs. Georgetown is looking to avenge a narrow 9-7 loss from last season.
  • The Hoya offense currently ranks 16th in the country (15.5 goals per game), setting up a premier "offense vs. defense" battle against Maryland's elite backline.
